Box Score KEENE, N.H. 4/2/13 – Junior Eliza Witherbee (Newburyport, Mass.) scored a season high four goals and dished out two assists to lead the Keene State College women's lacrosse team to a decisive 13-1 non-conference victory over Colby Sawyer College at cold and windy Owl Athletic Complex on Tuesday afternoon. It's the fifth time Witherbee has scored four goals in a game.
The Owls, who have won two out of their last three games, improve to 3-5. Colby-Sawyer (2-5) saw its two game winning streak come to an end.
Keene State scored early and often, going up 6-0 in the first seven minutes of the game. Senior Lauren Brown (Agawam, Mass.) tallied three of the Owls' first five goals, giving her 17 on the season.
Witherbee netted consecutive goals to push Keene State's lead up to 8-0. She added one more in the second half to up her season total to 13 goals.
Sophomore Taylor Sirles (Holderness, N.H.) scored a free-position goal with just five seconds remaining to give KSC an 11-0 halftime lead.
Senior Laurel Bauer (Bradford, N.H.) spoiled the Owls shutout bid when she scored an unassisted goal at the 9:53 mark of the second half.
Freshman Kaitlin Nolan (Mahopac, N.Y.) also had a pair of goals for Keene State while seniors Lindsay McManus (Dover, N.H.) and Nicole Curry (Hampstead, N.H.), and junior Julie Trombetta (Trumbull, Conn.) each scored single goals. Trombetta also handed out two assists.
Senior Christine Collins (Cheshire, Conn.) and junior Libby Curran (Londonderry, N.H.) each played a half in goal for the Owls and had two saves a piece.
Freshman Karley Hamilton (Bradford, Vt.) stopped five shots for the Chargers.
Keene State maintained position of the ball throughout the game, finishing with a 10-4 advantage in draw controls. They also had a 23-11 lead in ground balls and 23-10 margin in shots.
Both teams return to action on Thursday. Keene State is at MIT and the Chargers travel to Worcester State. Both games begin at 7 p.m.
