BRIDGEWATER, MASS. 4/27/13 - Junior Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Maine) and sophomore Ben Keach (Newfields, N.H.) had big days for the KSC men's team at the LEC Track and Field championships in Bridgewater , Mass. on Saturday.
Widzgowski won the 800 (1:53.78) and the 1,500 (3:53.40) while Keach won the shot-put (48'-04.47"), the discus (145'-09") and was second in the hammer (145'-06").
Senior Glenn Guilmette (Kensington, N.H.) also won the javelin with a season best throw of 212'-07". It's the fourth best mark so far in Division III.
Also in field events, senior Dante Hill (Longmeadow, Mass.) was second in the shot (47'-11") and junior Angus Fisher (Northampton, Mass.) took second in the discus (137'-01").
On the track, Thomas Paquette (Bolton, Conn.) was second in the 5K (15:31.99). Freshman Mark Rabasco (Pittsfield, Mass.) was third (15:49.38).
The Keene State College women's track and field team came within two points of ending Southern Maine's 13 year Little East Conference Championship reign at Bridgewater State University on Saturday. The Owls finished with 156 points. USM retained its title with 158 points.
Keene State finished third in the men's standings with 111 points. Rhode Island College won the championship with 174 points.
The Keene State women won four events at the meet. Despite nursing an injury, senior Maggie Fitter (Branford, Conn.) won the 800 (2:15.68) and sophomore Kaitlin Wheeler (Exeter, N.H.) won the 1,500 (4:49.34). Senior Janel Haggerty (Guilford, N.H.), and freshmen Molly Schaeffer (Center Moriches, N.Y.) and Allison Brady (Weymouth, Mass.) and Fitter teamed up to win the 4x800 relay (9:49.91).
Also on the track, freshman Lauren Markoe (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) was second in the 1,500 (4:55.13), Haggerty was second in the 100-meter hurdles (15.29) and sophomore Hannah Doolittle (Hampstead, N.H.) was runner-up in the 10K (40:26.85).
In field events, freshman Ashley Rozzi (Woodbury, Conn.) won the javelin with a throw of 118'-11".
The KSC women had a good day in the throwing circle. Senior Whitney Cyr (Milford, Mass.) was second in the hammer with a season best throw of 131'-10". Sophomores Courtney Hartwell (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Samantha Folland (Newfields, N.H.) placed second (122'-00") and third (114'-00") respectively in the discus. Both were season best marks.
Junior Sarah DiTonno (Wakefield, Mass.) was third in the shot-put (36'-03.50") and Cyr placed fourth (35'-4.00").
In other events, Freshman Lucia Martin (Swanzey, N.H.) was second in the pole vault (9'-00.25") and Haggerty placed second in the high jump (5'-03.25").
