FITCHBURG, MASS. 4/613 – Keene State Track teams won a combined eight events at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Track and Field Invitational at Fitchburg State University on Saturday.
Both teams finished third in the team standings at the meet. Bates won the women's championship with 265.50 points. KSC had 120 points.
On the men's side, Colby won the championship with 171.50 points. The Owls finished with 96 points.
Junior Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Maine) had a big day on the track for the Owls, winning the 1,500 (3:56.47) and 5K (15:12.19) races. Senior Thomas Paquette (Bolton, Conn.) was also third in the 5K (15:37.53).
Sophomore Ben Keach (Newfields, N.H.) had a productive day in field events, winning the shot put (47'-01.75"), the discus (138'03") and placing third in the hammer (140'-10"). Junior Angus Fisher (Northampton, Mass.) was second in the discus (128'-05").
Senior Glenn Guilmette (Kensington, N.H.) continued to dominate the javelin event with a winning throw of 211'-11").
Senior Maggie Fitter (Branford, Conn.) won the 1,500 (4:42.430 and placed third in the 400 (1:01.63) for the Keene State women's team.
Also on the track, junior Nikki Leeman (Round Pond, Maine) took third in the 3,000 steeplechase (12:56.96).
In field events, seniors Janel Haggerty (Guilford, Conn.) won the high jump (5'-03.00') and sophomore Samantha Folland (Newfields, N.H.) topped the field in the discus (117'-02"). Senior Whitney Cyr (Milford, Mass.) was second in the shot (33'-08.75") and sophomore Courtney Hartwell (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) placed third in the discus (106'-00").
In the javelin, sophomore Nicole Marrero (Bristol, Conn) with a throw of 117'-05" and freshman Ashley Rozzi (Woodbury, Conn.) with a mark of 113'-03"), finished second and third in the event respectively.
The Owls compete next Saturday at the UMass-Amherst Invitational.
