Widzgowski wins 800-meter race at ECAC Championships

SPRINGFIELD, MASS.  5/17/13 - Junior Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Maine) won the 800-meter race at the ECAC Division III Track and Field Championships at Springfield College's Blake Track on Friday.

Widzgowski's winning time of 1:51.83 is the second best mark recorded by a Keene State runner in the event.  Peter Najem holds the Owl record with a time of 1:50.08.  "Ryan's time could qualify him for the NCAA championships, but we want him to concentrate just on the 1,500 race," said KSC Coach Peter Thomas.

Sophomore Ben Keach (Newfield, N.H.) was the only other Owl to score at the meet, finishing seventh in the discus with a mark of 137'-11".

Looking to improve her qualifying time for the national, senior Maggie Fitter (Branford, Conn.) placed 15th in the 800-meter race (2:18.14).  She is currently seeded 19th in the event.  The top 22 runners will qualify for the NCAA championships.

In field events, sophomore Courtney Hartwell (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) finished ninth in the discus (115'-05") and teammate Samantha Folland (Newfields, N.H.) was 11th (109'-01).

Bates won the men's team championship with 76 points while Rowan (N.J.) University took home the women's title with 63 points.
