HANOVER, N.H. 9/14/13 - Senior Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Maine) and sophomore Samantha Goldsmith (Derry, N.H.) were the first Keene State College men's and women's runners respectively to cross the finish line at the Dartmouth College Invitational in Hanover, N.H. on Saturday.
Widzgowski finished 24th in the men's race, coving the 8K course in a time of 25:19 while Goldsmith, who placed 59th, clocked a time of 23:34 on the women's 6K course.
Keene State tallied 108 points to finish fourth out of five teams in the men's field. The Owl women were seventh in the team standings with 196 points. Syracuse University won the men's title with 24 points. Georgetown took home the women's championship with 46 points.
Sophomore Ryan Brady (Durham, N.H.) was the Owls' second man, placing 30th with a time of 25:38. He was followed to the finish line by senior Chris Plankey (Bristol, N.H.) who was 37th (26:00), sophomore Brandon Davis –O'Donnell (Nashua, N.H.) who was 40th (26:10) and sophomore Hayden Patterson (Dover, N.H.) who was 41st (26:15)
Sam Chelaga, an unattached runner won the race with a time of 25:19.
Although they didn't have a front-runner, the Keene State women ran as a close pack. Freshman Lindsay Szuch (Stratford, Conn.) was right behind Goldsmith finishing 61st with a time of 23:40. Other top runners for the Owls included freshmen Elizabeth McGurk (New Ipswich, N.H.) and Carli Davis (Chester, N.H.) who were 62nd (23:50) and 63rd (23:56) respectively. Senior Erin Crawford (Townsend, Mass.) who was 66th (24:07) round out the Keene State scorers at the race.
Dartmouth senior Abbey D'Agostino won the women's race with a time of 20:12.
Keene State competes at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational next Saturday.
