Widzgowski and Davis lead Owls at UMass-Dartmouth Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MASS. 9/21/13 – Senior Ryan Widzgowski (Camden, Maine) and freshman Carli Davis (Chester, N.H.) were the top finishers for the Keene State College men's and women's cross country teams respectively at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational in North Dartmouth on Saturday.

Widzgowski placed fifth, covering the fast UMD 8K course in a time of 25:19.  Davis was ninth in the women's race, covering the 5K course in a time of 18:56.

In team scoring, the Keene State men were second with 66 points. Franklin Pierce won the team title with 52 points.  On the women's side, Keene State was third with 113 points in the 29-team field.  Rowan (N.J.) University won the championship with 45 points followed by Brandeis with 51 points.

The owl men finished in a pack behind Widzgowski.  Senior Brett Mastrangelo (Millis, Mass.) was 14th (25:49), classmate Chris Plankey (Bristol, N.H.) was a second behind him (25:50) finishing in 15th place.  Sophomores Ryan Brady (Durham, N.H.) who was 17th (26:13) and Hayden Patterson (Dover, N.H.)  who was 19th round out the top scorers for the Owls.

Sophomore Samantha Goldsmith (Derry, N.H.) was a second behind Davis, placing 10th in a time of 18:57.  Other top finishers for KSC included freshmen Lindsay Szuch (Stratford, Conn.) who was 24th (19:27) and Elizabeth McGurk (New Ipswich, N.H.) who was 37th (19:52) and junior Kaley Mientkiewicz (Hanson, Mass.) who was 38th (19:54).

In the women's junior varsity race, freshman Rachel Klaski (Chesterfield N.H.) placed fourth with a time of 19:45.

After taking next weekend off, the Owls will host the KSC Invitational on Oct. 5.
