Outdoor Track Opens Season At Tufts Snowflake Classic

MEDFORD, Mass.--Ryan Widzgowski won the 1,500 meters as the Keene State College track and fieldl teams opened the season at the Snowflake Classic at Tufts University on Saturday.  The Owl men were seventh out of 26 teams, while the KSC women were 11th out of 24.

Racing against opposition from all divisions, Widzkowski finished the 3:56.86. He also placed fourth in the 800 meters in 1:58.01, finishing second amongst all Division III runners.

The Owls had three of the top eight finishers in the 400 meter dash; in a race where less than a second separated first through fifth place, James Sturgis-Cox finished fourth in 51.39 seconds, Eric Dietz sixth in 52.05, and Devin Sanford in 52.29.

In field events, Angus Fisher finished second in the discus with a throw of 39.92m.  Noah Macri added a sixth place finish in the pole vault with a leap of 2.80 meters.  

KSC finished with 37 points, seventh overall and fifth amongst Division III schools.

On the women's side, Katelyn Terry and Lauren Markoe both placed in the top eight in the 800 meter run.  Terry was seventh in 2:26.34, and Markoe was right behind in eighth in 2:27.12.

In the 10,000 meters, Elizabeth McGuirk was fifth in 40:50.47, and Hannah Doolittle was seventh in 41:39.57.  Lucia Martin was third in the pole vault with a jump of 2.60 meters, and Nicole Marrero was third in the javelin with a toss of 38.61 meters.  Sarah DiTonno was also third in the shot put with 11.30 meters. 

KSC amassed 27 points, sixth among the Division III schools competing and 11th overall.
