DELAWARE, Ohio--Keene State College senior Ryan Widzgowski made sure he would have one final race in his KSC career by advancing to the finals of the 1,500 meter race at the NCAA Division III Championships at Ohio Wesleyan University on Thursday evening.
The senior from Camden, Maine claimed the last spot in the finals by running the preliminary in 3:55.35, just .05 seconds of David Stilin of Wisconsin-La Crosse. The first four finishers in each heat, plus the next four best times advanced to the final. "It was a nail biter," said head coach Peter Thomas. "The first heat ran so fast, so we knew he had to get a top four time. The pace was slow but Ryan ran the last 300 in 41.5 seconds to eke it out."
Now, Widzgowski gets a chance to add one more All-America honor to his name. The final race will take place at 2:15 pm on Saturday, May 24. Widzgowski was an All-American in the 1,500 a year ago.
