MEDFORD, Mass.--Snowy conditions could not stop the 2015 outdoor season from getting underway for the Keene State College track and field squad on Saturday at the Tufts Snowflake Classic.
The KSC men were 11th out of 22 teams, while the Owl women were 9th out of 17.
Keene State's throwing contingent headed further south, to take part in the 20th Annual Monmouth Season Opener in West Long Branch, N.J.
Tufts
The Owl men were led by a winning 4x400 meter relay team of Eric Dietz, Quentin Bazarnicki, Devin Sanford, and Ian MacLeod in 3:36.50.
Devin Sanford was eighth in the 400 meter dash in 51.83, while Ben MacDonald was also in eighth in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:39.91.
Hayden Patterson placed fifth in the 10,000 meters, in 32:53.07, just ahead of teammate Mark Rabasco, who was seventh in 33:03.47.
Emmett Berry added a sixth place finish in the 110 high hurdles, at 16.43, and Quentin Bazarnicki was sixth in the 400m hurdles, with a time of 1:00.01.
For the KSC women, Katelyn Terry won the 800 meters in 2:26.69, with sister Lindsey Terry in second in 2:28.74.
The Terrys were also a part of the winning 4x400 meter relay with Allison Brady and Alyssa Lombardi in 4:19.09.
Kait Wheeler was fifth in the 3000 meters in 10:42.51, while Lindsay Szuch was in seventh in the in 10:58.31.
Monmouth
Freshman Dominque Pascoal hit the qualification standards for the New England Division III and ECAC Championships in the javelin with a throw of 37.31 meters, while Ashley Rozzi also punched her ticket for the New England Division III Championships in the same event with a toss of 35.75 meters. Pascoal's javelin throw was sixth overall, and the best throw by a Division III entrant.
Ben Keach also qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the javelin with a 50.90 meter throw, good for sixth place overall and the highest finish among Division III competition. Keach also qualified for the NE DIII and ECAC Championships in the shotput, throwing 14.81 meters, for a seventh place overall finish that was again tops amongst Division III competitors.
The Owls continue the season with meets at Amherst College and Fitchburg State University next weekend.
