Box Score

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Keene State College women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener to MIT, 12-9, Wednesday night.

Junior captain Kaitlin Nolan paced the Owls with three goals and three assits, while freshman Liz Robinson recorded her first two collegiate goals.

Hannah Levy finished with four goal for the Engineers while Emily Young added three.

Levy opened the scoring for MIT (1-0), finding the back of the net just 1:14 into the contest. A minute and a half later she assisted on the second goal of the game, feeding junior Isabella DiDio to make it 2-0. Keene State (0-1) took the ensuing draw control and quickly pulled back to within one as freshman Taylor Farland scored her first collegiate goal.

After the two sides traded goals, MIT's offense started to maintain control of the ball and the result was three straight scores for the Engineers to open a 6-2 advantage. Levy and junior Rachel Weinberg each picked up scores off of free position shots before freshman Emily Young scored on a Levy assist, giving MIT a four-goal cushion with 7:40 left in the half. Keene State then picked up goals from sophomore Kelly Chadnick and Nolan to make it 6-4, but Levy found freshman Katie Notarangelo as time expired to make it 7-4 at the half.

MIT started the second half by outscoring Keene State 3-1 over the first 10 minutes to pull out to a 10-5 advantage. Young picked up two of the scores for the Engineers to give them the five-goal lead. Over the next 10 minutes the teams played to a draw, with MIT freshman Eva Boal and Keene State sophomore Alison Argiro making several stops in goal between them to keep it a 10-5 game.

Nolan broke the stalemate for Keene State, picking up her second of the game at 9:21. That provided a spark for the Owls that saw them score three goals in four minutes; with Nolan tallying the final goal of the run with 5:32 left that had her team back within a pair at 10-8. A minute and a half later Levy gave MIT some breathing room, breaking a nearly 16-minute scoreless streak for the Engineers with her fourth of the game. With two minutes left DiDio converted a free position shot to ice the game for MIT. Junior Emilee Silegy completed the scoring for Keene State with her first goal of the season with 17 seconds left.

MIT outshot Keene State by a 35-20 margin and also held a 41-22 advantage over the Owls in ground balls. Boal made five saves for the Engineers, all in the second half, while Argiro made 15 stops for Keene State.

The Owls look to pick up their first win of the season Saturday at Roger Williams. MIT hosts Lasell Saturday afternoon.
