Women's Lacrosse Falls to Rival Plymouth State, 15-10

KEENE, N.H. - In a battle between undefeated teams in conference play, the Keene State College women's lacrosse dropped a 15-10 decision to rival Plymouth State Tuesday afternoon at Owl Athletic Complex.

Freshman Taylor Farland scored a career-high three goals for KSC (3-10, 3-1), while Kaitlin Nolan and Polly Grey each scored twice. Laura Gendreau collected three ground balls and forced three turnvoers.

Amy MacDonald was nearly unstoppable for the Panthers (9-3, 3-0), totaling five goals. Classmate Caroline Vonachen tallied four goals and added an assist, while Shannon Connerty and Megan Tingley each finished with two scores and three helpers.

The Owls came out firing on all cylinders, jumping out to a 4-0 lead 9:51 into the game. The Panthers responded by putting up six-straight goals, claiming a lead they would not relinquish.

Farland finally stopped the PSU run, bringing her team within 6-5 with 7:34 remaining in the first half. However, the Panthers would score three-straight, taking a four goal lead (9-5) until Kaitlin Nolan tallied her only two goals of the game brining the Owls within 9-7. Tingley added a score for the visitors with 44 seconds left in the half.

The Panthers scored twice to open the second-half but Farland and Taylor Graf answered for the Owls making the score 12-9. MacDonald and Vonachen scored two more times for the Panthers to put the visitors ahead 14-9, and Farland and Tingley traded goals with 12 and 11 minutes remaining, respectively.

Both teams were held scoreless in the final 11 minutes.

Alison Argiro made eight saves in net for the Owls, while Casey Cur ran stopped 13 shots in the win.  KSC finished with a 31-27 advantage in shots, while PSU held the margin in draw controls, 15-12, and ground balls, 27-19.

Keene State will be honoring its two seniors against UMass Dartmouth Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Plymouth State hosts Western Connecticut Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
