Track and Field Competes at Springfield Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.--The Keene State College track and field team got their preparations in for the Little East Conference Championships at the Springfield College Invitational on Saturday.

The Keene State women were seventh with 58 points, while the KSC men were in fourth place with 90 points.

In the women's 400 meter dash, Katelyn Terry finished second in 58.80, less than a half a second behind Williams' Jessica O'Brien.  Terry, who had already qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the event, will also compete at the Open New England and ECAC Championships with that time.

Katelyn Terry also qualified for the New England Division III Championships in the triple jump, with a leap of 10.54 meters.

Sister Lindsey Terry finished fifth in the 400 meters, in 1:00.34, a time that will also qualify her for the New England Division III Championships.

Kait Wheeler won the 1,500 meters in 4:45.87, while the Terry sisters, Alison Brady, and Lauren Markoe finished second in the 4x400 meter relay in 4:06.39.

The Keene State men were paced by Devin Sanford, who led a top three Owl finish in the 400 meter dash.  Sanford won the event in 50.70 seconds, just ahead of Eric Deitz, who was second in 50.92, and James Stergis Cox, who was third in 51.02.  Stergis Cox, who had already qualified for the New England Division III Championships, will be joined by Deitz and Sanford, who qualified with their times.

The three also teamed up with Quentin Bazarnicki to win the 4x400 meter relay in 3:23.53 to qualify for the ECAC Championships.  That time broke a 39 year old Keene State record.

Ben Keach won the shotput yet again, with a dominating throw of 15.17 meters, a full 1.18 meters ahead of his nearest competitor.  Keach broke his own record, set in 2013, of 14.99 meters.

Keach also won the discus, punching his ticket for the ECAC Championships at 43.89 meters.  Alex Magoon was third in the javelin, with a throw of 52.82 meters, which qualifies him for the New England Division III Championships.

Keene State gears up for the postseason beginning with the Little East Conference Championships at Fitchburg State on April 25.
