Box Score HARTFORD, Conn. – The Keene State College women's lacrosse team's season came to an end with a 13-9 loss to St. Joseph's Long Island in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament Saturday afternoon on the campus of Trinity College.
With the win, St. Joseph's (14-4) will move on to the second round and play host No. 1 Trinity (Conn.) Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Polly Grey and Jenna Bellano each registered two goals for the Owls (7-12), while Kaitlin Nolan finished with one goals and three assists.
For the Golden Eagles, Caitlynn Webber scored a game-high four goals, while Ela Igdeler and Heather Ferchland each tallied three.
St. Joseph's came out of the gates hot, taking a 5-0 lead 19:53 into the game on two goals by Ferchland and three from Webber.
Kaitlin Nolan put the Owls on the board at the 18:04 mark, but the Golden Eagles would respond with two more. Polly Grey's free position shot with 11:15 on the clock would be the last score of the half and brought KSC within 7-2.
The Owls came out with a renewed sense of energy as they went on a run of four-straight goals. Grey and Taylor Graf found the back of the net just 35 seconds apart, followed by scores from Tori Weinstock and Emilee Silegy to bring KSC within 7-6 at 18:57.
St. Joseph's stopped the run on goals from Igdeler and Webber in a 33 second span giving them a 9-6 edge.
Bellano kept the Owls alive with her unassisted tally with 14:04 left on the clock, but the Golden Eagles outscored KSC 4-2 down the stretch to put away the game.
KSC goalkeeper Alison Argiro finished with 13 saves for the Owls and opposing netminder Courtney Wickline made 14 stops.
The Owls held a 28-25 advantage in ground balls, but the Golden Eagles held the edge in shots 31-27.
The Little East champion Owls were making their fourth appearance in the NCAA tournament. The nine goals they scored today were the highest total for a KSC women's lacrosse team.
