CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Hope Walsh and Kyle Shadeck both hit NCAA B-Cuts on the opening night of competition at the MIT Invitational on Friday evening.

Women's Highlights

• Walsh placed fourth overall in the 1,650 freestyle, in a personal best time of 17:21.95 to reach the NCAA B-Cut and break her own school record bynearly four full seconds.  Rachel Mackinnon was eighth in the same event in 18:40.80.
• Jessica Beler was 13th in the 3-meter dive, with a score of 177.60. 
• The 800 free relay grouping of Walsh, Mackinnon, Margaret Dean, and Paige Westley were ninth in 8:09.21

Men's Highlights

• Shadeck swam a time-trial in the 200 butterfly, finishing in 1:51.44 to hit a B-Cut standard.  His time was just .03 seconds off the school record set by Cole Hogg in 2015.
• Jake Driscoll finished sixth on the 1-meter board, scoring 204.80.
• Graham Lott was seventh in the 1,650, in 17:30.62, just ahead of teammate Antony Hubbard, who was eighth in 17:32.34.  Bryce Bowie was 12th in 18:03.93. 
• Lott and Hubbard joined up with Ryan Boraski and Nathan Shepard in the 800 free relay that placed seventh in 7:01.31.

Up Next

• After Friday's events, the Owl women sit in fifth place, as do the men.  Also at the meet are New York University, MIT, Wheaton (Mass.), Tufts, and Wellesley.
• The meet continues throughout the weekend, beginning on Saturday with the preliminary races at 10:30 am, followed by the finals beginning at 6 p.m.  Events contested on Saturday include the 200 free relay, 200 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 400 IM, and 50 free.
