Boraski, Shepard Set New Marks On Day Two at MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—School records continued to fall as the Keene State College swimming and diving team continued competition at the MIT Invitational on Saturday.

Men's Highlights

 

  • Ryan Boraski broke the school record - twice - in the 50 freestyle.  in the morning preliminary, the senior All-American swam a 20.24, breaking the record of 20.39 set by Greg Youngstrom in 2015.   That evening in the preliminary round, Boraski broke the 20 second barrier, setting a new mark at 19.95 seconds.
  • Boraski almost broke his own record in the 200 free, winningin 1:38.79 to win the event, just .15 seconds off his own school mark set last season.
  • Nathan Shepard broke the school record in the 50 breaststroke, breaking the oldest record currently on the Keene State board.  Shepard swam the first half of the 100 breast in 25.85, nicking the mark of 25.90 set by Domingo Rose in 2009. The time was also an NCAA B-Cut.
  • Boraski and Shepard were joined by Graham Lott and Eric King in the 200 medley relay that finished fifth in 1:25.17.  
  • Quinn Severs swam the 100 breast in 59.91, the seventh fastest time in school history.  Kyle Shadeck was seventh in the 400 IM, in 4:09.09.  
  • KSC sits in fourth place after two days of competiton, with 267 points.


 

Women's Highlights

 

  • Alex McCafferty swam the 400 IM in 4:49.94, a personal best and the seventh fastest time in school history.
  • Sophie Hayes finished seventh overall in the 200 fly, in 2:11.34, the fifth fastest time in school history, passing KSC assistant coach Diana Pimer in the process.
  • Hope Walsh was 12th overall in the 200 free in 1:58.50, while Margaret Dean was 13th in the 50 free in 25.11.  
  • Keene State is currently sixth in the meet heading into the final day, with 211 points.

Up Next

  • The meet concludes on Sunday with preliminaries beginning at 10:30 am and the finals at 6 p.m.  Events contested include the 200 medley, 500 free, 200 back, 100 fly, 200 breast, 100 free, 200 IM, and 400 free relay.  The Owls will be off for the rest of the fall semester, resuming competition on January 14 when they host Bentley College.
