Swimming and Diving Wraps Up Third Day Of MIT Winter Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Keene State men's and women's swimming and diving program closed out the final day of the 2016 MIT Winter Invitational on Sunday, hosted by MIT at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center Pool. 

Men's Highlights 

  • The 200 medley started the evening out with an eighth place finish, as the team of senior Ryan Boraski, senior Nathan Shepard, freshman Kyle Shadeck and senior Graham Lott touched the wall in 1:34.17. 
  • The night was highlighted by a winning time in the 100 free from Boraski, as the senior broke his school record by one-one hundredth of a second with a record time of 44.23, an NCAA B-Cut. 
  • Both Lott and Shadeck had 10th place finishes, as Lott swam the 500 free in 4:52.64, while Shadeck completed the 200 IM in 1:57.80. 
  • The 400 free relay team of Boraski, Lott, Shepard and freshman Eric King combined for an eighth place finish in 3:11.44. 
  • Sophomore diver Jake Driscoll finished in 6th place in both the 1 meter and 3 meter boards, with 222.35 and 204.80 points, respectively. 
  • The Owls finished fourth in a field of five with 487 points, as MIT finished in first place with NYU and Tufts coming in at second and third place, respectively.

Women's Highlights 

  • The 200 medley relay team of sophomore Katie Brandeberry, freshman Olivia Pechulis, freshman Sophie Hayes and junior Margaret Dean put forth a strong effort to begin the night, finishing in 1:53.96 for 13th place. 
  • Junior Hope Walsh took fifth place in the 500 free in 5:10.67, while classmate Rachel MacKinnon followed in 14th place in 5:26.74. Walsh also competed in the 200 back, racing to 14th place overall in 2:10.74. 
  • In the 100 fly, Dean and Hayes were only hundredths of a second apart, as Dean took ninth in 59.53 and Hayes finished 12th in 59.57. Dean was also 13th overall in the 100 free in 55.11. 
  • The Owls finished sixth overall with 378 points, while No. 8 NYU took first, followed by No. 12 MIT and Tufts to round out the top three.

Up Next 

  • The Owls will be off for the rest of the fall semester and will return to competition on January 14th when they welcome Bentley College.
