Women's Lacrosse Outlasts Southern Maine, 13-8

KEENE, N.H.--The Keene State College women's lacrosse team opened up a 12-2 lead at halftime, then weathered a second half comeback in a 13-8 win over the University of Southern Maine in a Little East Conference game on Saturday at Owl Athletic Complex.

Up Next

  • Keene State travels to Plymouth State in a rematch of the last two LEC championship games.  The Panthers are currently 8-3 and 2-0 in LEC play.  The game is on April 19 at 4 p.m.
  • Southern Maine travels to MIT on Tuesday, April 19 at 6 p.m. 

Tale of the Tape

  • Jenna Bellano had three goals and three assists, while Erica Stauffer, Kaitlin Nolan, and Samantha Ballard each netted twice.  Taylor Farland also had three goals.
  • Taylor Graf had seven more assists, giving her 45 this season.   Graf currently has the third highest single season assists total in KSC history with three games remaining in the regular season.
  • Sarah Pelligrinelli led USM with three goals.  Caley Presby made 10 saves in net for the Huskies.
  • Alison Argiro played the first half to earn the win and made six saves.  Anna O'Brien completed the second half with four stops.

First Half Highlights

  • Pelligrinelli opened the scoring 34 seconds into the game for the Huskies, but the Owls rattled off the next nine goals.  Bellano tied the score with an unassisted tally, and Graf fed Farland, Bellano, and Nolan for the next three goals as KSC upped their lead to 4-1 at the 26:12 mark.
  • Bellano assisted on Ballard's goal for a 5-1 lead, then scored her self off a feed from who else - Graf - and Kelly Chadnick did the same at the 19:06 mark.
  • KSC had a two-man advantage on yellow card's to USM's Heather Everett and Pellegrinelli, and Farland and Nolan made both count by increasing the lead to 9-1.
  • Southern Maine stopped the rot with a free position goal by Hannah LaSalle, but KSC closed the half with goals from Stauffer, Ballard, and Stauffer again for a 12-2 lead at the break.

Second Half Highlights

  • The second half was a different story, as Southern Maine outscored KSC 6-1.  The Huskies netted the first four goals of the half, as Heather Everett, Shauna Robert, Sam Campobasso, and Pelligrinelli drew USM within 12-6.
  • Farland got KSC's lone goal of the second half with 6:50 to go.  KSC kept the Huskies off the scoreboard until the final minute, when Lauren Lessard scored on a free position shot, and Pelligrinelli got a final goal with 25 seconds remaining.
