Owls Open LEC Play With Rout of Anchorwomen

KEENE, N.H.--The Keene State College women's lacrosse team outshot Rhode Island College 34-5 on their way to a 17-3 win over the Anchorwomen in the Little East Conference opener for both teams.

Tale of the Tape

  • The Owls scored the final 10 goals of the first half to maintain their perfect record over RIC.   Keene State has never lost to the Anchorwomen in 18 all-time meetings.
  • Taylor Graf had an eight point game with two goals and six assists.  Kaitlin Nolan had three goals and two helpers, while Kelly Chadnick, Erica Stauffer, Tori Weinstock, Jenna Bellano, and Samantha Ballard each had two goals.  Meghan Malloy and Emily Parker netted once each.  
  • KSC also dominated the restarts, taking 20 of 22 draw controls, including nine by Bellano.
  • Alison Argiro and Anna O'Brien each played a half in the KSC net; neither was called upon to make a save.
  • RIC got a goal each from Tess Bradley, Alison Nolan, and Betsey Heidel. Julia Eaton made 13 saves.


First Half Highlights

  • Taylor Farland set up Ballard for the first goal of the game 54 seconds into the contest; the Anchorwomen got an unassisted goal from Bradley to tie the score with 28:23 to play.
  • The Owls retook the lead as Bellano fed Nolan with 26:41 left, and the Owls poured it on.  Graf set up goals from Weinstock and Malloy, and Weinstock scored another while RIC's Allison Smedberg was serving a penalty.  
  • Stauffer scored on a free position shot, followed by goals from Chadnick, Ballard, Nolan, Graf, and Bellano as KSC went into the break up 11-1

Second Half Highlights

  • Graf got her second of the second to open the scoring in the second half, but the Anchorwomen got the next two through Heidel and Allison and Nolan.
  • The Owls returned the advantage to 10 goals on Kaitlin Nolan's third of the game.  Bellano and Chadnick scored again for a 15-3 lead with 9:10 remaining.
  • Stauffer's second of the game and Emily Parker's first collegiate goal wrapped up the scoring with 3:58 left.
