Women's Lacrosse Clinches Share of LEC Title With Senior Day Win Over UMass Dartmouth

Box Score

KEENE, N.H.--The Keene State College women's lacrosse team honored their seniors in fine style with a 15-2 win over UMass Dartmouth on Saturday at Owl Athletic Complex.

Records

  • Keene State: 9-6, 5-0 LEC
  • UMass Dartmouth: 7-6, 3-2 LEC

Up Next

  • The Owls close out the regular season with a visit to Eastern Connecticut State University on April 30 at 12 pm.   The winner of that game will claim the No. 1 overall seed in next week's LEC tournament.
  • UMass Dartmouth heads to Western Connecticut State on Monday at 7 p.m.

Tale of the Tape

  • Keene State scored the first six goals of the game and never looked back.  The Owls clinched at least a share of the LEC regular season championship and a bye into the semifinals of the LEC tournament.  As noted, KSC will be the No. 1 seed and outright regular season champion with a win at Eastern Conn. State next Saturday.
  • Kaitlin Nolan had three goals and three assists, while Taylor Farland scored a trio of goals as well. Jenna Bellano scored twice, including the 100th of her career, and Kelly Chadnick and Samantha Ballard also each netted a pair of markers.
  • Taylor Graf continued her assault on the KSC record books, with five assists, moving her into second place all-time on the single season list with 50.
  • Anna O'Brien played 44 minutes in goal and made three saves; Alison Argiro made five stops in the final 16 minutes.
  • The Owls shut down the Corsair offense, limiting UMass Dartmouth to nine shots on goal.  UMD had come in with the most explosive offense in the LEC (174 goals), and boasted Colleen Kane, who came in as the LEC's leading scorer and seventh in the country in goals per game.  KSC limited Kane to a single assist.
  • Before the game, Keene State honored seniors Meghan Malloy, Natalie Barnett, Laura Gendrea, and Kaitlin Nolan.

  • Tori Weinstock scored an unassisted goal with 16:02 to go, followed by goals from Bellano and Farland for a 6-0 lead.
  • UMass Dartmouth got on the board with a tally from Leah Douty, but KSC responded with goals from Chadnick and Ballard to increase the lead to 8-1.
  • Raquel Riley pulled another one back for the Corsairs, but Nolan netted her second of the game and Kelly Chadnick scored a man-down goal with 46 seconds left to send KSC into halftime up 10-2.

Second Half Highlights

  • Keene State picked up right where it left off, as Meghan Malloy scored on a 2-on-1 break from Nolan, followed by a pair of goals from Farland.
  • Erica Stauffer scored with six minutes left, and Nolan closed out the scoring with 54 seconds remaining.
  • UMass Dartmouth, which was shutout in the second half, could not get anything going.  Argiro made sure of the second half shutout with stops on Riley and Kane in the final minutes.
