Alexis Gauthier Breaks 100 Hurdles Record at ECAC Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn.--Alexis Gauthier set a new school record in the 100 meter hurdles and also won the heptathlon, and was named the Outstanding Athlete of the Meet as the Keene State College track and field team competed at the ECAC Division III Championships at Southern Connecticut State University.

Women's Highlights

After just missing the record in the hurdles of the heptathlon, Alexis Gauthier shattered the previous record of 15.14 with a 15.01 showing in the preliminaries of the open event, breaking a 17 year old mark held by Oksana Anohina.  She followed that up with a win in the finals, crossing the line in 15.86.

Gauthier also won the heptathlon with 4,195 points, winning three of the seven events.   She won the 100 hurdles in 15.21, and the high jump in 1.51 meters.  She was fifth in the shot put, throwing 8.10 meters, before finishing second in the 200 meter dash in 27.30.    She then came back to win the long jump at 5.34 meters, followed by a sixth place finish in the javelin at 24.52 meters, and fourth in the 800 meters in 2:35.18.

Skyler Gauthier finished fifth in the heptathlon with 3,716 points; she was second in the 100 hurdles in 15.62, and tied for third in the high jump at 1.45 meters.  She was second in the shot put with a throw of 9.64 meters, and won the 200 meter dash in 26.79.  After the long jump, she came back to finish second in the javelin by throwing 29.04 meters and winning the 800 meter run in 2:29.85.

Brittany Gravallese won the 800 meters in 2:22.17, while Lynne Hebert was fourth in the 800 meters in 2:26.58, and Hebert posted a win in the 1,500 meters in 4:53.90.  Lauren Perkowski dominated the 5,000 meters, cruising to a win in 17:42.99, nearly two minutes faster than the second place finisher.

Amanda Deppert was sixth in the 200 meter dash in 26.42, missing the school record by 0.05 seconds, while Nicole De Almeida was eighth in that event in 26.57.  De Almeida was also sixth in the 400 meter dash in 1:00.53.

Keene State finished second in the team scores, with 66 points.

Men's Highlights

Angel Ramirez finished fifth in the 200 meter dash in 22.65, while also finishing 10th in the preliminaries of the 100 meter dash in 11.20.  Alex Medina was sixth in the 400 hurdles in 58.69.

Ramirez, Brandon Castor, Anthony Jennings, and Clinton Mungeta were fourth in the 4x100 meter relay in 43.70, while Castor, Jennings, Mungeta and Medina were second in the 4x400 meter relay in 3:24.05.

Jared Hannon was fourth in the long jump at 6.97 meters.   The Owls placed 14th as a team, with 25 points.

Keene State will now await the selections to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, to be announced at approximately 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 18.
