How it Happened
Although Keene State did not get the start they were hoping for, as UMass-Dartmouth's Emma DeLacy netted the first goal of the evening, the Owls were able to quickly rebound and bury the first four out of five goals in the contest. Goalkeeper
Haley Terva kept the Owls in the contest in the early goings, collecting three free position shot saves fired by UMass-Dartmouth. Junior
Brigid Casey got the scoring going for the Owls, weaving her way through the Corsairs defense to find twine. Just over two minutes later, it was the Owls leading goal scorer on the early season
Haile Ratajack giving KSC the 2-1 lead, a lead they never gave up for the rest of the game. In fact, Ratajack would score the next three goals for Keene, giving them a 4-1 lead, which marked her ninth, tenth, and eleventh goals of the season. Bella Mancini would tally the next goal of the game, her third goal of the season, putting UMass-Dartmouth back in the contest.
Keene State would answer the tally by UMD as the Owls struck for another four-goal run. Freshman
Brooke Ellis would tally her first collegiate goal and point of her career to give the Owls the 6-2 lead just over halfway through the first half. A free position goal from Casey and the fourth tally of the night from Ratajack would give the Owls the early six goal advantage. With just over two minutes to play in the first half, it was once again the tandem of Ratajack and Casey finding twine.
Ali Daisy made a successful pass in to Ratajack in the middle of the crease where Ratajack was able to fire a shot past goalkeeper Tahlia Amaral. With just 23 seconds left in the half, KSC took the 10-3 lead with Casey's fourth of the half.
The second half brought more of the same for Keene State as senior
Ali Daisy opened the scoring just three and a half minutes into the half. Daisy picked up her fifth goal of the season. A quick response gave UMass-Dartmouth just a seven-goal disadvantage when Hannah Niemi found the back of the net off a free position attempt for her third goal of the campaign. The Owls defense shut the door on UMass-Dartmouth after that as the Owls registered the next eight goals in the half.
At the 22:11 mark,
Brigid Casey found the back of the net for her fifth and final goal of the evening, ending the night with seven points (5 G, 2 A). Keene State sophomore
Mindy St. Marie and senior
