Ratajack, St. Marie Each Score Twice in Loss for Women’s Lacrosse

NORTON, Mass. – Senior midfielders Haile Ratajack and Mindy St. Marie each scored two goals for the Keene State College women's lacrosse team, as the Owls fell to Wheaton College 21-4 Wednesday at Nordin Field.

How it Happened
It was the Owls who struck first when Ratajack scored at the 12:39 mark in the first quarter. But Wheaton would go on to score the next three goals in the quarter, with two of them coming from senior attacker Jessie Kilburn. St. Marie would pull the Owls within one with her ninth goal of the season at the 6:38 mark. The Lyons scored the next seven goals, with two of them coming from Kilburn.
 
Down 10-2 in the second quarter, Ratajack scored her second goal of the game to make it 10-3, which is what the score would end up being at halftime. St. Marie would score her other goal at 8:02 in the third quarter, while Wheaton picked up another 11 goals in the half. Kilburn would score her fifth goal of the game in the third quarter, while junior attacker Avonlea LaBeau scored five goals in the half to finish with a game-high six. Senior attacker Harvey Brooke also scored four goals in the win for the Lyons.
 
Inside the Crease
  • St. Marie led the Owls in both shots (6) and shots on goal (4). She has also scored 10 goals in her first six games this season, the most she has scored in that stretch in her collegiate career.
  • Ratajack, who finished with three shots on goal, also won a team-high four draw controls and three ground balls in the game. After missing the first three games this season, Ratajack has scored eight goals, the second-most on the team.
  • Senior attacker Jackie DeAngelis and senior defender Emma Rochefort both led the Owls with two caused turnovers each.
  • In her second collegiate start in goal, freshman Kara Moriarty made four saves, while freshman Sarah Howe made another four saves in relief.

Keene State will play at the University of New England on Saturday, March 25 at 10:30 a.m., at Blue Bolt Field. Wheaton will host Wellesley College on that same day at 1 p.m.
