How it Happened
Freshman midfielder Tess Brown opened the scoring for Keene State with her 15th goal of the season 59 seconds into the game. Sophomore attacker Kristin Leslie then scored her fifth goal of the season on a free position shot at 13:22 to extend KSC's lead to 2-0. Castleton answered back with a goal of their own before the Owls started to pull away. Keene State scored five straight goals, with the tallies coming from senior midfielders Mindy St. Marie and Haile Ratajack, sophomore attackers Lola Smith and Chase Gengras, and senior attacker Jackie DeAngleis. The Spartans would add two more goals in the quarter, while the Owls got three more goals from St. Marie, Ratajack and junior attacker Hannah Dworkin. Keene State ended the first quarter up 10-3.

The Owls' defense went on to shut out the Spartans in the second quarter. Meanwhile, KSC added five more goals to its lead. Two of the goals came from DeAngelis, while Brown, Ratajack and freshman midfielder Riley Devine each scored one. Once Keene State made it 13-3 on DeAngelis' first goal of the quarter, the clock was allowed to continue running due to the 10-goal mercy rule. Keene State went into halftime up 15-3.

The scoring for KSC slowed down in the second half as Castleton tried to catch up. Dworkin scored the only goal for the Owls in the third quarter, with the assist coming from Brown. Castleton scored two goals in the quarter to cut KSC's lead to 16-5 heading into the fourth. Both teams scored three times in the final frame, as Smith, Dworkin and Ratajack scored for the Owls to put their team at .500 in Little East Conference play.

Inside the Crease
  • Keene State has an all-time record of 20-1 against Castleton dating back to 1998.
  • This is the second time this season that Keene State has scored 10 goals in a quarter. The other instance came in the second quarter against Eastern Connecticut State University on April 1. The Owls won that contest 19-6. It is also only the second time KSC has scored 10 goals in a quarter since the NCAA changed the format for women's lacrosse games from two 30-minute halves to four 15-minute quarters before the start of the 2022 season.
  • After starting the season 1-7, Keene State has won four of its last six games. In that stretch, the Owls have scored at least 18 goals in three of their four victories.
