Terrier Classic Event Schedule
River Hawk Invitational Event Schedule
BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman
Tyler Bolaske and graduate student
Grace Furlong each posted qualifying marks for the New England Division III Championships as the Keene State College track and field teams competed on the first day of the John Thomas Terrier Classic on the campus of Boston University at the Track & Tennis Center and at the River Hawk Invitational hosted by the University of Massachusetts Lowell at theTRACK at New Balance on Friday.
Bolaske qualified in the 1,000-meter run at BU in his first ever collegiate effort in that event, posting a time of 2:35.51 and finishing 24th out of 52 entries across all NCAA divisions and others – third among Division III competitors, behind junior Samir Amin from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2:31.33) and freshman Thomas Speltz of Colby College (2:34.33).
Furlong became KSC's seventh New England qualifier with a time of 18:23.08 in the 5,000 meters at UMass Lowell's event, finishing 11th of 33 runners in the event including second among Division III competitors (Paige Phillips of the United States Coast Guard Academy won the event with a time of 17:25.81). Furlong's time in that event was a personal best, and 35 seconds faster from her showing in the 5,000 at the University of Southern Maine Open on January 6.
Maggie St. John also ran the 3,000 in a personal best 10:34.07, while
Sarah Ames recorded an 11-second improvement in the mile, finishing in 5:32.21 at UMass Lowell.
Molly Lu McKellar finished the 60 meter hurdles in 10.04, finishing 14th of 45 including fifth among Division III entrants, and
Savannah Soleau threw the shot put 11.34 meters.
On the men's side, fellow freshman
Griffin Urnezis was barely over a second behind Bolaske in the 1,000 meters, finishing in 2:36.77.
Eden Damis recorded a mark of 13.64 meters in the triple jump, good for ninth of 19 (second among Division III).
Aidan Law ran the 400 meters in 51.95 and
Samuel Hennedy the 500 meters in a personal best 1:09.51, his first run in that event since January of 2022 (TFRRS).
Kyle Maruca threw the shot put 12.95 meters.
Bolaske and Furlong join Law (200 meters, long jump), St. John (5,000 meters), Damis (triple jump), Maruca (shot put), and Soleau (shot put) as Owl New England Division III championship qualifiers. KSC now has seven different individuals in six different events who will travel to Boston for that meet on February 25, eight days after the LEC championship on February 17.
Both events continue tomorrow (Saturday, January 27) at the same locations. The Terrier Classic begins at 11:00 a.m. and the River Hawk Invitational at 9:00 a.m.
