KEENE, N.H. – The Owls took on Wisconsin-River Falls Tuesday night in Overwatch 2 as KSC looked to pick up their first win in program history in the game. After a tough fought game, where the Owls were able to pick up their first map win in program history, they eventually fell to the Falcons, 3-1.
Records
- Keene State: 0-3
- Wisconsin-River Falls: 3-0
How it Happened
In the first game, Control on Lijiang Tower, the Falcons took the first point without the Owls even managing to capture it, as they shut KSC out. For the second point, KSC was able to stop WRF at 44% after they captured the point first, as they looked to try to complete the reverse sweep, but the Falcons only allowed the Owls to capture 11% of they point before they retook control. WRF held onto the point for the remainder of the capture time, and after a team kill on the Owls comeback attempt in the closing seconds, the Falcons took game one, 2-0.
In the second game, Hybrid on King's Row, the Owls started off on attack and were able to capture the first point easily after a team kill, thanks to one elimination each from Midas and Tut and three from Hoodnut. After going back and forth as the Owls tried to push the payload to the objective point in the closing seconds, KSC was finally able to secure the second point in the round thanks to a team kill with Shadowstorm and Tut each getting an elimination, and Hoodnut with another three eliminations (two with his ultimate). The Falcons were able to hold off the Owls from getting the third point in the round as KSC made it to 44.55m on their last attempt. On the next round on defense, the Owls gave up the first point as WRF was able to pull off a team kill on KSC. The Falcons were able to earn the second point by pushing the payload to the point with 1:51 to spare. After the clock had more time added on for the next push for WRF, they were able to push it past the mark set by the Owls (with 2:18 left), thanks to another team kill by the Falcons, which gave WRF a 2-0 map lead.
Game three in the contest was Flashpoint on New Junk City, Keene State got to 68% of capturing the first point, but WRF eliminated all five Owls on the point and got all the way to 99% of capturing the point before a team kill from KSC (four eliminations from Midas, one from Hoodnut) gave the Owls the objective back. KSC went on to capture the first point thanks to another team kill as everybody got an elimination (including two from Tut) except for Midas, in this instance. WRF secured the second point up to 48% as KSC took control, but only to 65% as the Falcons regained possession. The Owls once again regained possession of the objective, holding the Falcons to 99%, due to Midas and Tut eliminating two Falcons on the objective. KSC pulled to even at 99% on the objective, but WRF had five eliminations and was able to take the point, evening it out at one apiece. Keene State took the objective at the start of the third point, getting to 67% before WRF took control. KSC held the Falcons to 99% once again and secured the point thanks to a team kill, and then reached 100% on the point thanks to another team kill by the Owls. On the verge of picking up their first match point in program history, the Owls reached 99% on the fourth objective point, but were unable to capture it as the Falcons stormed back and tied the score up at two apiece after securing the objective. Keene State took control of the final point and was able to reach 65% but five eliminations by the Falcons gave them the point as they looked to pick up the sweep on the day. KSC regained possession of the point, after a pair of eliminations from each Midas and Hoodnut halted the Falcons at 50%. Keene State finished the round by securing the final point by a pair of eliminations from Tut, and one each from Hoodnut, Shadowstorm, and Sweptfive, to give Keene State Overwatch their first match point in program history, winning Flashpoint 3-2.
The fourth game, Push on Colosseo, would be a new round for the Owls in their competitive field, as they have not reached a fourth game yet, with the objective being to "push" (or essentially guide) the objective point that starts in the middle of the map, as deep as possible into enemy territory in the 10 minutes in the round. KSC was able to take control of the point and start to push it first, thanks to a pair of eliminations from Midas and one from each Sweptfive and Tut. WRF responded with controlling the objective 46.71m into the Owls' zone, before KSC was able to put it to a stop. KSC regained control soon after and pushed the objective to the 45.84m mark, as the Falcons were able to stop them less than a meter short of their lead. As the match reached the halfway point, WRF was able to reach the checkpoint and a mark of 66.42m before the Owls briefly stopped the Falcons before they regained possession and pushed the objective to 131.76m into the Owls zone as the clock ticked under two minutes. KSC was able to push the objective further into the Falcons' zone, to 63.54m, but it would not be enough as the time ran out and gave the Falcons the win, due to the Falcons pushing the objective to a further mark than the Owls.
