KSC Suffers Close Defeat to UNE, 2-0

KEENE, N.H. – The Keene State College Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team took on the University of New England on Thursday night in game 2 of their double-header, after picking up their first win in program history from a 2-0 forfeit win over St. Clair College in game one. In one of the closest contests for the Owls in their season, the Nor'easters narrowly pull pulled away to win the matchup, 2-0 over KSC.

Records
  • Keene State: 1-5
  • University of New England: 3-4
How it Happened

Pac-Man kicked off game one of the best of three series for the Nor'easters by taking one of Slatterys' (using Link) stocks, but Slattery answered right back by taking one of Pac-Man's just a few seconds later, leaving each of them with two stocks remaining. Pam-Man was able to take another of Slattery's stocks next and prevent him from taking one back, as they took Slattery's final stock, leaving the Owls with nine stocks remaining in game one. Sour entered as Piranha Plant next for the Owls and lost one stock to Pac-Man, before he was able to take a stock from Pac-Man, leaving him with one remaining. Unfortunately for KSC, just like with Slattery, Pac-Man was able to take the final two stocks from Sour, preventing him from taking his final stock, which left KSC with half of their stocks left (six), compared to 10 remaining for the Nor'easters. Tadpole entered next as Corrin and after losing two stocks quickly to Pac-Man, with both players on their final stock and with a high amount of damage percentage, Tadpole was able to take Pac-Man's final stock, leaving UNE with nine stocks remaining, to the Owls' four. Sora entered next for the Nor'easters, and they quickly took Tadpole's final stock, leaving the Owls with just three stocks remaining, as TheGingerLad was next up. Using Palutena, Ginger came in and quickly took two stocks from Sora, and with his damage percentage very high, he took Sora's final stock, without losing one of his own, bringing UNE's stocks remaining down to six. Jigglypuff came in next for UNE and after losing one of their own stocks, they were able to take one of Ginger's stocks, leaving KSC with two stocks remaining. After losing his stock, Ginger answered back by taking Jigglypuff's final two stocks, as he was on a tear, taking six stocks from the Nor'easters while only losing one of his own. On the verge of the Owls first Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game win in program history, the only thing standing in KSC's way was the final three stocks from Kazuya for the Nor'easters. Kazuya was able to take Ginger's second stock, leaving him with one remaining, but Ginger responded right back by taking one of Kazuya's. Kazuya dealt too much damage in the end for UNE, as they took Ginger's final stock, with only two remaining for UNE, giving the Nor'easters the game one win over the Owls.

Sour started game two off hot for the Owls, as he used King K Rool and took all three of the stocks from Sora of the Nor'easters. After being the last member of UNE in game one, Kazuya entered as the second member of the team in game too, as they looked to make up the three stock lead the Owls had. Kazuya was able to take a stock from Sour to open the matchup, but Sour was able to escape and prevent Kazuya from taking another stock, as Kazuya fell off the map and lost a stock himself, leaving each with two remaining. After the pair traded stocks again, leaving each of them with one remaining, Kazuya was able to kick Sour's cannon ball back at him, which with a high damage percentage, did the trick to take his last stock. TheGingerLad entered as the second member for the game for the Owls, after a dominant run at the end of game one and picked up right where he left off, as he got revenge and took Kazuya's final stock. With just six stocks remaining for the Nor'easters, compared to nine for the Owls, Pokémon Trainer entered for UNE and was able to take a pair of Sours' stocks, before being unable to get back on the platform, as they lost one of their stocks. Pokémon Trainer was able to take the final stock from Sour, along with all three stocks from the next KSC opponent, as they took all Tadpoles' stocks, without losing one of their Own. After being down nine stocks to six, Pokémon Trainer was able to take six of the Owls' nine stocks, across a span where they only lost one stock. The Owls were down to their final three stocks, as Ness entered, trying to force a game three in the series. After Ness lost a pair of stocks, they were able to take one from Pokémon Trainer, but unfortunately for the Owls, Pokémon Trainer was able to take the final stock from Ness, giving UNE the game two win, with four stocks remaining, and giving them the 2-0 series win on the day.
