SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Four New England Division III qualifying marks were reached as the Keene State College track and field team competed at the Springfield College Invitational on Saturday at Blake Track and Field.
Men's Highlights
- Griffin Urnezis won the 5,000 meters in 15:39.65.
- Aidan Law won the long jump in 6.66 meters, taking the event by .01 meters and qualifying for the New England Division III Championships.
- Sam Hennedy was second in the 400 hurdles in 59.36.
- Kyle Maruca was second in the shot put, with a New England Division III qualifying mark of 13.78 meters, and won the discus in 45.45 meters, which also qualifies him for the New England Division III Championships in that event.
- Matthew St. John was second in the discus, with a toss of 40.56 meters, which is a New England Division III qualifier.
- Nick Pope was second in the hammer in 40.84 meters.
- The men were third out of eight teams with 105 points.
Women's Highlights
- Maggie St. John won the 800 meters in 2:31.40, and the 1,500 meters in 5:01.34.
- Aurora Couto was third in the 5,000 meters in 20:07.36.
- Sarah Ames was fifth in the 800 meters in 2:35.66.
- Sara Christian was fifth in the 10,000 meters in 44:58.00.
- Alyssa Edgren was second in the steeplechase in 14:07.83.
- Alexa Hurley was sixth in the high jump in 1.42 meters.
- Mary Meagher was fifth in the discus in 31.62 meters.
- The women were third out of 10 teams with 70 points.
"With New England weather, you never know what can happen in the spring. After the Fitchburg meet was cancelled, it was a great turnaround to compete today at Springfield," said Keene State head coach
Dan Roark. "Our team took advantage of the opportunity and ran with it, having solid performances and some qualifiers! We are looking forward to spring weather and bigger performances to come."
The team will continue action this week; selected members will take part at the UMass Multi Meet on April 10-11, while more action will happen at the Silfen Invitational on April 12 at Connecticut College and the Penmen Relays on April 13 at Southern New Hampshire University.
