WORCESTER, Mass.—Kyle Maruca set a new school record in the discus and may have punched his ticket for the NCAA Division III Championships at the Open New England Championships at Holy Cross this weekend.
Maruca, who had just broken the record on April 20, uncorked a throw of 50.87 meters on his third attempt to set the school mark and finish third overall in the event. That mark is also good for a tie for 20th nationally. The top 22 throws will qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Maruca would become the first male outdoor qualifier Joey Fodor in 2021.
In addition to Maruca being All-New England with his finish, Aidan Law and Grace Furlong (fourth) also earned the recognition for finishing in the top eight of the long jump (6.75 meters) and 10,000 meters (38:42.94), respectively.
Other Keene State performers included:
As a team, the Owl men scored seven points and were tied for 26th out of 39 teams while the women had five points and were tied for 31st of 36 teams. Both meets were comprised of teams from across all three NCAA divisions.
The Owls also sent a group to the Farley Inter-Regional Extravaganza at Williams College, with Law running the 400 meters in 51.19 and Hennedy in 51.89. MceKellar finished the 400 hurdles in 1:11.01.
KSC is at the Williams Final Qualifying Meet on Wednesday.
