KEENE, N.H. – It will be a busy weekend for the Keene State College athletic department tomorrow (Friday, November 14) and Saturday (November 15) as women's soccer hosts an ECAC semifinal at the Owl Athletic Complex and men's basketball opens their home schedule on Saturday at noon before a hockey doubleheader at Keene Ice.
The women's soccer team (9-5-6) earned a bid into the ECAC tournament after falling in overtime in the Little East tournament semifinals to eventual league champion University of Southern Maine and will host New Jersey City University (11-7-2, 3-4-2 NJAC) in a semifinal on Friday, November 14 at the Owl Athletic Complex turf field (3:00 p.m.). It will be the first-ever meeting against the Gothic Knights, who fell in their conference tournament semifinal to top seed Montclair State University 2-1 on the road. The winner will advance to take on either No. 1 seed Waynesburg University (15-3-2) or fourth-seeded University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg (9-8-3) in the championship at a date and venue to be determined – likely next weekend.
The Owl men's basketball team, who fell to two nationally-ranked opponents last weekend including a three-point loss at No. 14 Virginia Wesleyan University, will open their home schedule on Saturday against Western New England University at noon in Spaulding Gymnasium. In lieu of admission fees, the KSC athletic department encourages spectators to donate a non-perishable food item for those in need, including contributions to the college's Hungry Owl food pantry.
Both KSC hockey teams will close the weekend with contests at Keene Ice, as the men take on Western Connecticut State University at 3:30 p.m. before the women host the University of Massachusetts-Boston at 7:00 p.m.
