Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Season record: 1-1
Week 1: vs. St. John's University (2-0 victory, SJU forfeit)
In Playfly College Esports, Super Smash Ultimate matches are contested in a four-person "Crew Battle" format; a relay race of sorts wherein both teams sport four players with three stocks each. Players enter the battle once three of their teammates' stocks have been depleted, and the first school to lose all 12 of their team's stocks lose the match. This format is contested in a two-out-of-three contest.
Match 1
Against St. John's the Owls led off the Crew Battle format match with Matthew "squidman" Silvestri on Mario versus SJU's Pyra/Mythra. After trading a stock with one another, Pyra/Mythra was able to push momentum and subsequently eliminated all of squidman's stocks. Next, team captain Aidan "Sour" Zimmer entered the match against Pyra/Mythra as Piranha Plant, and took Pyra/Mythra's final two stocks out, with one stock remaining on Sour. SJU's next player selected Cloud and took Sour's final stock. Tyler "Tadpole" Adkins came in for the Owls next, selecting Chrom. Cloud defeated Tapole 3-0, maintaining a 9 to 3 lead for SJU. Brody "pytt" Freehling anchored the Owls, selecting Joker to take on Cloud. In the final moments of the battle, Cloud knocked pytt over the stage, along with themselves, ending the first match with an 8-0 stock victory for SJU.
Match 2
For match 2, the Owls led off with Tadpole versus Cloud once again. Cloud defeated Tadpole without losing a stock, giving SJU an early 12-9 stock lead. Squidman reentered, playing Mario, and was also defeated 3-0 by Cloud, bringing the score to 12-6 in favor of SJU. Sour then came in for Keene State, playing King K Rool. Sour took two stocks from Cloud before being defeated. With pytt coming in as the anchor once again for KSC, the score was 10-3 with SJU in the lead. Pytt defeated cloud as R.O.B, with only one stock left. SJU brought in their next player on Donkey Kong, who took pytt's final stock away, securing the second match 9-0 once again for SJU, resulting in a 2-0 series victory.
What's next: KSC Super Smash Bros takes on Stony Brook University University at 7 PM on Tuesday, February 18th.
