SJU Set 1 (5-0 victory)
KSC opened up the match with Matthew "squidman" Silvestri against SJU's first player, playing as Ken. Squidman successfully took a stock from Ken, before losing all three of his, bringing the first match to a 11-9 stock count in favor of SJU. Next for the Owls was Brody "pytt" Freehling playing Min Min who knocked off Ken's final two stocks, while losing one stock themselves. What followed was one of the strongest singular performances by a KSC SSBU student dating back to their inaugural Spring 2024 season. SJU next sent in their second player on Captain Falcon, who took one stock from pytt before losing all three themselves. The third player for SJU came in as Joker, with a 7-6 lead for KSC. Pytt successfully three-stocked Joker without losing their final stock, forcing St. John's to send in their final player, playing Incineroar. Incineroar finally stopped pytt, taking away their final stock to bring the first match to a 6-3 lead for KSC. All together, pytt notched eight total eliminations out of the 12 stocks that SJU had in the first match. With pytt eliminated, the Owls brought in captain Aidan "Sour" Zimmer to face off Incineroar, and promptly took Incineroar's final two stocks away, sealing a 5-0 set victory for KSC to move to 1-0 in the best of three match.
SJU Set 2 (3-0 loss)
Squidman and SJU's Ken player ran it back against one another for the beginning of the second set. Like the first set, Squidman took one stock off of Ken before losing all three of his, pushing KSC to send in pytt once again as Min Min. This time around, Ken seemed to have more answers for pytt's Min Min, as they took away all three of Pytt's stocks while surrendering just one themselves, giving SJU a 10-6 lead going into KSC's third player. Tyler "Tadpole" Adkins entered in for KSC as Chrom to try to knock off Ken for good. After losing one stock, Tadpole succeeded in taking away Ken's final stock. The second player for SJU came in as Incineroar, who defeated Tadpole's final two stocks without surrendering one of their own. Anchoring for the Owls in a 9-3 deficit, Sour came in as King K. Rool. Losing one stock, Sour took down Incineroar, setting up a situation where Sour had to take away the final two SJU players with just two stocks. SJU's third player was Ridley. Ridley took a stock away from Sour, but Sour fully defeated Ridley to keep the KSC comeback alive. With a 3-1 stock score, SJU sent in their final player as Corrin. Sour was unable to complete the comeback, losing his final stock to Corrin, giving SJU the second set victory in 3-0 fashion, setting up a tiebreaker set to follow immediately after.
SJU Set 3: (10-0 loss)
St. John's led off the third and final set with Ken once again and KSC sent out Sour as King K. Rool. Sour took away one stock from Ken, but lost all three of his, giving a 11-9 lead for SJU. Second for the Owls was Squidman, playing Mario. Like Sour, Squidman took one stock from Ken before losing all three of his. Ken would go on to three-stock KSC's final two player in pytt as Min Min and Tadpole as Chrom; completing the reverse sweep of the series in a 10-0 stock victory for SJU.
Game 2: vs. Iona University
The Gaels did not show up for their match against the Owls and thus forfeited the matchup 2-0, resulting in a victory for the Owls.
Game 3: vs. SUNY Farmingdale State College
FSC Set 1 (2-0 loss)
KSC opened the first match of the set with Brody "pytt" Freehling as Min Min and FSC opened with Sora. Both players traded stocks back and forth, with both retaining one after 2 minutes of game time. Pytt emerged victorious over the Sora, winning the first match giving KSC a 10-9 stock lead. FSC's second player entered as King K. Rool. Pytt took one stock from King K. Rool and was then defeated. With a 9-8 stock lead, KSC sent in Leo "Vort" Tufts as Peach. Losing one stock, Vort emerged victorious from the matchup, beating King K. Rool to give the Owls a 8-7 stock lead and forcing FSC to push in their third player, as Byleth. Byleth took Vort's final two stocks while losing one themselves. The Owls third player was Aidan "Sour" Zimmer as Piranha Plant, who eliminated Byleth's final two stocks while retaining his three stocks. With a 6-3 stock deficit, FSC sent out their final player as Kazuya. Kazuya defeated Sour while holding onto their three stocks, forcing the Owls to send in Matthew "squidman" Silvestri as Mario. With three stocks a piece, Squidman and Kazuya faced off to determine the winner of the series. Squidman took one stock from Kazuya, however, Kazuya won out the match, taking away Squidman's three stocks and giving FSC the set 1 victory, with a score of 2-0.
FSC Set 2 (5-0 loss)
To begin the first match of the second set, KSC led off with Squidman as Mario and FSC with King K. Rool. King K. Rool took the match with a 2-0 victory, giving FSC the early set advantage with a 11-9 lead. Vort came in next for the Owls. Both contestants traded blows back and forth, with Vort taking the victory with one stock remaining, bringing the set to 9-7 score with FSC in the lead. FSC's next player came in as Byleth. With just one stock, Vort made the most of the situation, taking away one of Byleth's stocks before losing his final one. Next for the Owls was Sour as King K. Rool. Sour took away Byleth's two final stocks, but not without losing two of his own. With the series in a 6-4 situation with FSC in the lead. FSC's third player entered as Hero. With just one stock left, Sour was unable to make any headway against Hero, who defeated Sour. In a 6-3 situation, the Owls sent in Pytt as their final player, as Min Min. Pytt was unable to turn the tides, and lost all three of their stocks, going off the stage with Hero at the end, marking a 5-0 set victory for SUNY Farmingdale State College, and a 2-0 series victory.
What's next: KSC Smash Bros. wrapped up their regular season with a 3-5 record and awaits the completion of their division-mates regular season games to confirm whether they qualify for the eight-team playoff bracket.
