How it Happened
RIC got on the board first in the game after the Owls had a possession clock violation on their first possession and Brie Macaruso scored her first goal of the game for the Anchorwomen.
Tess Brown won the ensuing faceoff for the Owls, and it led to
Lola Smith scoring the tying goal 18 seconds later. The Owls' defense directly led to three goals on the other side of the field shortly after as KSC tacked on three more goals the rest of the quarter. The first of the three came a minute and a half after Smith's goal as
Riley Devine caused a turnover leading to
Anna Maccarini scoring the go-ahead goal for the Owls. Brown caused the next turnover on a RIC clear attempt and scored the Owls' third goal of the day herself. The Owls' final goal of the first quarter came with 4:02 remaining as
Lola Smith caused a turnover on another failed Anchorwomen clear attempt and she then assisted her fellow senior
Amethyst Phelps on her first goal of the game for KSC to give the Owls a 4-1 lead into the second quarter.
The Owls opened the second quarter with four goals over the opening 5:49 of the quarter as Brown caused yet another turnover that directly led to a goal as Phelps scored her second goal in a row for the Owls. Smith tacked on another goal shortly after and after Brown caused the fifth turnover of the game on the Anchorwomen, she scored a free position goal to put KSC up 7-1.
Hayden Smith got on the board with 9:11 remaining in the half as she scored the Owls' eighth goal of the day, coming from Maccarini for a seven-goal lead. Macaruso stopped the Owls' eight consecutive goals with a man-up goal for the Anchorwomen with 3:30 remaining but KSC responded right back with a pair of goals the rest of the first half. Less than a minute later Brown assisted
Lola Smith on her 35th goal of the season and after KSC's goalkeeper
Mabelle Bessette saved her third shot of the half (and second free position shot saved),
Chase Gengras scored her 34th goal of the season to give KSC a 10-2 lead heading into the half.
KSC scored all four of their goals in the third quarter in the first 6:07 of the quarter as
Hayden Smith scored her ninth and tenth goals of the season for KSC a minute a part early in the second half. Smith then assisted Brown for the third of the four goals in the quarter and after
Lola Varricchione caused a turnover, she scored her first goal of the day to make it six consecutive goals for the Owls once again. Macaruso scored her third goal of the day for RIC on a free position shot and after entering the goal to start the second half for KSC,
Abby Tanner saved a shot in the final minute for her third of the quarter and the Owls took a 14-3 lead into the final 15 minutes of action.
Lola Smith caused a pair of turnovers to open the fourth quarter which led to Gengras scoring her 35th goal of the season as she tied her fellow senior and teammate since they were kids,
Lola Smith, for the second most goals on the team on the season. Varricchione scored the Owls' 16th goal of the day with 5:21 remaining and after Tanner saved a free position shot with less than a minute left Gengras assisted Phelps for her first hat trick of the season to tie her career-high of goals in a game as the clock ran out and KSC picked up the 17-3 senior day win.
