AMHERST, Mass. – Five Owls took one more crack at NCAA qualifying marks when the Keene State College outdoor track and field teams ventured an hour south for the Final Qualifying Meet at the University of Massachusetts on Thursday afternoon.
The Owls sent
Aidan Law to compete in the long jump and the 4x100 meter relay along with
Sean Von Ranson,
Jonathan DeAguiar, and
Kyle Thomas. Von Ranson also competed in the 200 meter dash, while on the women's side
Keely Giordano took part in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dash events.
Giordano placed fourth of five in the 100, finishing in 12.72 among a field where she was the lone Division III competitor. Dominique Romain (11.97) of Yale University took the event, which three members from the host school UMass also ran in. In the 200, Giordano posted a time of 26.67 to place eighth of ten runners.
On the men's side, Law, who will await to see if his national 23rd-best mark in Division III in the long jump is enough to squeeze into the NCAA field, closed his scheduled season with a mark of 6.95 meters for a third-place finish. He jumped 7.24 meters on April 19 to set a new school outdoor record in the event, and had his name among the top 20 ever since before a small handful of new marks bumped him one below an automatic qualification after he made the indoor NCAA championship in the long jump earlier this season and narrowly missed advancing to the finals.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Law, Von Ranson, DeAguiar, and Thomas, which also set a new outdoor school record of 42.13 on April 27, posted a time of 42.41 today in their final race. Von Ranson also ran the 200 meters in 22.74.
KSC concludes their 2024-2025 indoor and outdoor track and field seasons having rewritten a whopping 15 records, including four individual marks from Law across both seasons. Giordano set new marks in the 100 and 200 both indoors and outdoors, while Thomas did the same in the 100.
"This was a long and successful season," said Keene State head coach
Dan Roark. "Today we tried pushing the limits and I think we set up an idea where we should be at next year. Everyone in this group today will be back next year, and I am proud of this group and team as a whole. We are still waiting to find out if anyone continues for another week, but we are in a great position and really pushed the limits this year."
NCAA selections are announced tomorrow (Friday, May 16) at 8:00 p.m. ET.
