How it Happened
Tess Brown gave KSC their lone lead of the day 28 seconds into the contest after
Lola Varricchione won the opening draw control for KSC. 1:26 later UMB took their first lead of the game after a pair of goals before Brown scored again 35 seconds later to tie the game up at two apiece for the Owls. The rest of the opening quarter the Beacons scored seven more goals to jump to a 9-2 lead heading into the second.
UMB opened the second quarter to increase the lead to as many as nine before the Owls were able to find the back of the net again with Brown's third goal of the game for KSC with 7:35 left in the quarter. Despite UMB adding another goal later in the quarter, KSC scored three more goals the rest of the quarter to pull within six heading into the half. Varricchione scored two of the three goals, while
Hayden Smith scored another and Brown added a pair of points with two assists across the three goals.
The Beacons killed any momentum KSC built to open the second half as they increased the lead back to eight with two goals over 47 seconds. Varricchione responded back later in the quarter as she scored two more goals herself again, with one coming on a free position shot. Before the third quarter was up the Beacons tallied one more goal before the end of the quarter as UMB capitalized on a man-up opportunity to take a 15-8 lead into the fourth.
Anna Maccarini found
Tilden Tinkham for the opening goal of the fourth as Tinkham scored her first career collegiate goal to pull KSC back within six 1:40 into the fourth. UMB once again killed the Owls' momentum shortly after with three goals to double up KSC 18-9 with 6:13 left to play. KSC tacked on two late man-up goals later in the contest as Smith scored a free position goal and
Jenna Braga picked up her second career collegiate point as she assisted Maccarini for the final goal of the game.
