WESTFIELD, Mass. – Freshman Ben Peters shot an eight-over 79 to finish in a tie for seventh place individually as the Keene State College men's golf team sent a younger group to compete at Westfield State University's Brett Williamson Invitational at the Tekoa Country Club on Wednesday.

It was a close and hard-fought event, with the winner and the eighth-place Owls in the 11-team field (with three Westfield teams) separated by just 13 strokes.  Peters had a strong round, finishing with a birdie and nine pars.  He entered the par-3 18th hole just two over since No. 7 but took a five to finish with a 39 on the back nine, moving down on the leaderboard when he otherwise might have finished in the top three.  Fellow freshman Cole Madden added an 82 with one birdie while parring five of the final seven holes, while transfer Matthew Canavan finished with an 86.  Braeden Dion and Ryan Hebert each finished with an 87, with the duo and Canavan all making their KSC debuts.

Lillian Muntzer of Lesley University won the individual title by shooting a 74 that included 11 pars and three birdies, winning by two strokes over the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts' Roco Stolz (76).  The Lynx also won the team title by exactly one shot over Rhode Island College and Westfield State (A), with three of their four scorers between 74 and 78.

"It was a day to try and help the program grow," said KSC head coach Jeff Timmer.  "I thought overall they performed well.  Ben had a nice day for us, now we just need to get better as a whole team so we can push each other to get better in the next month."

The Owls host their own invitational at the Keene Country Club on Tuesday, September 29 at 9:00 a.m.
