Keene State College

Dedicated sophomore looking forward to her first season withthe Keene State track team.  A versatile performer who can runevents for the 400 up to the mile. 

Before KSC:  Comes to Keene State after abusy athletic career at New Canaan (Conn.) High where she playedsoccer, ran track and also served for a year as the manager of theRams’ wrestling team…Track:  Melanie’s mainevent was the 400, but will transition to the 800 with theOwls… ran a PR of 59.22 in the 400m at CIAC Class MMChampionships, placing fifth…also placed fifth (1:01.11) inthe 400 at the Class L Championships…was selected by hercoach as the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship, proceeds fromJune’s fourth annual New Canaan One Mile RoadRace…also received the Exchange Club Unsung HeroAward…played two years on the varsity soccer team at NewCanann…junior team captured State Class L Championship.

Personal:  Parents Fortimo and ImeldaEscalante are from Mexico…older brothers Fernando and Ivanwrestled at New Canaan…Melanie hasn’t declared amajor, but is interested in physical therapy and sociology.
