Dan Morse is returning to Keene State College for his second seasonas an assistant swim coach. A former four-year year swimmer for theOwls, Morse fills a spot on Head Coach Jack Fabian’s staffthat became open when Katie Allenson left to become assistantsoftball coach at Pfeiffer University in Charlotte, NorthCarolina.
“I’m real happy to be back with the Keene State swimteam,” said Morse. “I’m very familiar withJack’s system and know the program inside and out. Iknow we’ll work well together.”
“Dan was a hard-working, dedicated swimmer for Keene Stateand he’ll bring those same traits to his coachingposition,” said Fabian. “Dan is going to make agreat coach because he has the personality for it. We’re excited to have him.”
A native of Hope, R.I., Morse brings plenty of swimming experienceto his new position. Swimming since the age of five, Morsecompeted at the Kent County YMCA and on the highly-successfulBishop Hendricken (R.I.) High School team that has captured 23state titles. A top competitor for the Hawks in the 200 and500-yd. races, Morse earned second-team all-state honors as asenior.
Morse, who graduated from Keene State in 2011, earned a pool fullof honors swimming for the Owls. He was a member of theOwls’ three-time champion 800 free relay team at the NEISDAchampionships and also captured individual titles in the 200, 500,1,000 and 1,650 free races.
A one-time holder of Keene State records in the 1,000, 1,650 andthe 800 free relay, Morse posted an NCAA ‘B’ cut in themile, coming up just a few spots short of qualifying for thenational championship meet.
During his four years competing, KSC posted a 27-5 dual meet mark(never losing a home meet) and won three consecutive NEISDAchampionships from 2009-11.
Morse spent the past year helping to coach his YMCA team andserving as a volunteer coach at Bishop Hendricken. “Iwanted to get a lot of experience and look to get intocoaching,” Morse said. “I never thought it wouldhappen so quickly and I’d end up back at KeeneState.”
Looking for a cross-training sport to go along with his swimming,Morse took up boxing as a freshman and plans on implementingseveral of his workouts in the Owls’ dry landtraining.
