KEENE, N.H. 10/18/00 - Freshman Tanya Strong (Hatfield, Mass.) had two goals to lead Keene State College to a 3-0 Little East Conference field hockey victory over Westfield State Thursday at Owl Stadium Complex.
With the win, Keene State 13-4, (8-1 LEC), secures the second-seed in the upcoming LEC post-season tournament. Westfield State (10-5, 6-3 LEC) had its eight game winning streak snapped with the loss. KSC was returning to Owl Stadium after having its 34 home game winning streak snapped by Bates on Sunday.
Strong scored off a scramble in front to give the Owls a 1-0 half-time lead. KSC added two more goals in the second half. Nichole Dallas (Marlow, N.H.) got her second goal of the season on a penalty corner to make it 2-0 and Strong completed the scoring with her second of the game and ninth of the season.
The Owls, who controlled play throughout the game, outshot WSC 16-1. Lindsay Hamilton (Brattleboro, Vt.) made one save to notch her sixth shutout of the season. Jill Annunciata (Waltham, Mass.) finished with 14 saves for Westfield.
It was the final home regular-season game of the season fro KSC and seniors; Beth Chase (Kensington, N.H.), Kelly Smith (Lisbon, N.H.), Ally Huetz (So. Burlington, Vt.), Carrie Trudeau (Saco, Me.) Carloyn Costello (Oxford, N.Y.) and Kathleen Marucci (Newton, Mass.) were honored before the game.
Keene State will play at UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday (1 p.m.). They will host a LEC Tournament game next Tuesday (6 pm.)
