DARTMOUTH, MASS. 10/21/00 - Playing in her final regular-season game, senior Kelly Smith (Lisbon, N.H.) had two goals and an assist to Keene State College to a 3-1 Little East Conference field hockey victory over UMass-Dartmouth Saturday at Dartmouth, Mass.
Keene State 14-4, (9-1 LEC), will now get set for the LEC Tournament. The second seed, Owls, will host seventh seed Fitchburg State in a first round game on Tuesday at 6 p.m. UMass-Dartmouth falls to 7-10 (4-6 LEC).
Smith's first goal of the game, early in the second half, was the game-winner for KSC against the Corsairs. Her two goals gives Smith 13 for the season. Tanya Strong (Hatfield, Mass.) tallied her 10th of the year to give KSC a 1-0 lead in the first half.
Lindsay Hamilton (Brattleboro, Vt.), who finished with three saves, lost her shutout bid when Jen McGuinness scored midway in the second half.
THE LEC regular-season champs, Plymouth State will host the semifinals and
Championship rounds of the Tournament next weekend.
