KEENE, N.H. 10/5/00 — Kelly Smith's (Lisbon, N.H.) penalty shot goal at the 10:20 mark of overtime lifted Keene State College to a dramatic 2-1 field hockey victory over Middlebury College, Thursday at Owl Stadium Complex.

It was the fourth straight win for the 12th ranked Owls who improved to 9-2 on the season. Middlebury College falls to 3-6.

Carrie Trudeau (Saco, Me.) gave KSC a 1-0 first half lead when she scored from the side of the net for her team-leading 12th goal of the season.

Middlebury tied the game in the second half on a goal by Kristen Behr (Denver, Co.) following a penalty corner.

KSC goalie Lindsay Hamilton, who finished with seven saves, made several consecutive stops off of shots from Char Glessner (Ipswich, Mass.) and Julia Bergofsky (Exeter, N.H.) with seven minutes to play to keep the Owls in the game.

That set the stage for the game-winner by Smith who was awarded the penalty shot when a Middlebury player covered the ball in front of the net. It was Smith's eighth goal of the season. ecca Randall (Chatham, mass.) finished with eight saves for the Panthers.

Keene State will host Southern Maine in a LEC game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
