Red Hawks score late to defeat Keene State 1-0

The Rensselaer field hockey team improved their record to 4-0 with a shutout victory over the nation's fifth-ranked team, Keene St., this evening at Hartness Field in Troy, NY. The Red Hawks defeated the Owls, 1-0, for their third straight shutout. Keene State fell to 2-1 with the loss.

The game was scoreless until 24:30 into the second half when Rensselaer freshman forward Jessica Butler (Carmel, NY) deflected a Katie Coleman (Hopewell Junction, NY) shot to the upper corner of the net and past Keene State goalkeeper Linsey Hamilton (Brattleboro, VT). That proved to be the game's only marker as Rensselaer sophomore goalie Cathy Hotchkiss (Whiteplains, NY) stopped all seven shots she faced.

Butler, who earlier today was named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) Rookie of the Week, has now earned at least one point in each of the Red Hawks' four games. On the section, she has three goals and three assists for a team-high nine points. Hotchkiss, who was honored as the Goalkeeper of the Week by both the UCAA and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC), has stopped 27 of 28 shots in four games.

Hamilton, a sophomore, made five saves in the net for the Owls.
