KEENE, N.H 9/19/00 – Senior co-captain Carrie Trudeau (Saco, Maine) had two goals and Kelly Smith (Lisbon, N.H.) added a goal and two assists to lead Keene State College to a 4-1 field hockey victory over Trinity College Tuesday in Keene, N.H.
It was the third straight win for the sixth ranked Owls (5-1). Trinity College goes to 1-2 on the season.
Keene State scored two goals off of penalty corners to take a 2-0 half-time lead. Trudeau finished off a crease feed from Smith to put KSC up 1-0. Carolyn Costello's (Oxford, N.Y.) first goal of the season on a well executed corner play put the Owls up 2-0 later in the half,
"We had a hard time getting our corners off initially," said KSC coach Amy Watson. "But it came eventually."
"We need to take advantage of the fact when a non-turf team comes to play on our surface they will be caught off guard in the first half," she added. "It took them a half to adjust."
In the second half, Smith broke down the right side and first in a shot from 10 yards out to extend KSC's lead to 3-0. Trudeau completed the scoring for the Owls with her second of the game and team-high fifth goal of the season on a scramble in the crease.
Lindsay Hamilton, who finished with three saves, lost her shutout when Whitney Brown (Northfield, Il.) scored with three minutes to play. Gwen Gillespie (Gates Mills, OH.) finished with one save for the Bantams.
Smith and Trudeau have now combined to score nine of the Owls' 13 goals this season.
The Victory extended KSC's home winning streak to 29 games on the turf.
Keene State will travel to Plymouth State on Saturday for a 1p.m. game against the Panthers.
