KEENE, N.H. 9/30/00 — Kelly Smith (Lisbon, N.H.) had two goals and Tanya Strong (Hatfield, Mass.) added a goal and assist to lead Keene State College to a 4-0 Little East Conference field hockey victory over Eastern Connecticut State University Saturday at Owl Stadium Complex.
It was the fourth shutout of the season for the 10th ranked Owls (7-2, 3-1 LEC). The loss snapped a two game winning streak for ECSU (3-9, 1-4 LEC).
Keene State, which had a 21-0 shot advantage, dominated play from the start. Smith scored both of her goals, her seventh and eighth of the season, in the first half to stake the Owls to a 2-0 lead.
Carrie Trudeau (Saco, Me.) got her team-high ninth of the season and Strong completed the scoring with her fourth of the year in the second half. Beth Chase (Kensington, N.H.) collected a pair of assists in the game.
Lindsay Hamilton (Brattleboro, Vt.), with relief help from Amy Carroll (Brunswick, Me.) did not register a save in the shutout.
Stacey Bulkeley (Pawcatuck, Conn.), who had a strong game in goal for the Warriors,
finished with 15 saves.
Keene State extended its home winning streak to 31 games with the win. Twenty-three of those wins have been shutouts.
Keene State will be at Bridgewater State on Tuesday (4 p.m.) Eastern Conn. will also be on the road at Framingham State (4 p.m.) on Tuesday.
