KEENE, NH 10/23/01- Amanda Olson's (Auburn, MA.) goal midway in
the second half gave Worcester State College a 1-0 upset win over
host Keene State College in a Little East Conference Field Hockey
Tournament game played on Tuesday. Seeded sixth in the tournament,
Worcester State (14-6) will now advance to the semifinals at
Plymouth State College on Friday (2:30 p.m.) when they will face #2
seed Southern ME. Southern ME defeated #7 Westfield State 2-0
earlier in the day. Keene State, the third seed, completes its
season with a 10-10 record.
Taking a feed from Christen Watt (Hubbardston, MA.), Olson drove
a shot by Owl goalie Lindsay Hamilton (Brattleboro, Vt.) from close
range for the game winner at the 53:16 mark of the second half. It
was her ninth goal of the season.
The Owl's best opportunities to score came in the first half.
Annie Timpson (Derry, NH) led a KSC flurry with a couple of shots
at the 12 minutes mark and the Owls had a goal called back when the
ball went into the net off a player with seven minutes to play.
Alisha Bates (Palmer, MA.) made six saves to notch her sixth
shutout of the season. Playing in her final game for KSC, Hamilton
stopped fives shots for the Owls.
It was the second time the Lancers had shutout KSC this season.
Olson had the overtime-game winner in a 1-0 win over KSC back on
Oct. 13 in Worcester.
