KEENE, N.H. 12/1/01 - Dave Stantial (Beverly, MA.) had a game
high 21 points and tied a career mark with 18 rebounds to lead the
Keene State College men's basketball team to its first Little East
victory of the season, 99-77 over UMA-Boston in Keene on Saturday.
Keene State goes to 4-1 (1-0 LEC) while UMA-Boston falls to 2-4
(0-1 LEC).
The Owls built up a 16-point lead (38-22) and settled for a 14
point (49-35) advantage at half time. Stantial had 10 points and 14
rebounds in the first half.
The Beacons closed the gap to 10 points (63-53) on a steal and
basket by Eric Summerville (Little Rock, AK) with 14 minutes to
play. But Stantial hit a pair of three-pointers to push KSC's lead
back up to 14 points (69-55) at the 12:02 mark. UMB never
threatened the rest of the way.
Freshman Jason Levecque (Westbrook, Me.) had a season high 19
points and Dave Cudworth (Sanford, Me.) added 16 points to lead a
balanced KSC attack. Returning to the Owls' line Kyle Purinton
(Northwood, NH) also had 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Summerville had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Billy Allen (So.
Boston, MA.) added 11 points and eight rebounds to lead the
Beacons.
Keene State had a 67-39 advantage on the boards including 39
offensive rebounds.
KSC will play in-state rival Colby-Sawyer College on Tuesday
(7:30 p.m.) at the Granite State Challenge at N.H. Tech in Concord.
