Williamstown, MA 12/4/01-Junior Melissa Skeffington (Woburn, MA)
knocked down a three pointer with less than two minutes remaining
in the second period, and Junior Kate Stumpo (Walpole, MA)
connected on two free throws with 10 seconds remaining to seal a
68-65 victory for Williams College over the visiting Owls of Keene
State College on Tuesday.
The Ephs were led offensively by Skeffington who tallied 17
points on the night, while connecting on three of five three
pointers. Commented Manning: Abi Jackson(Jamaica Plain, MA) not
only chipped in 11 points for the Eph cause, but she led team with
12 rebounds.
However, the key to the Williams victory was the play of
Freshmen Alana Zell (Swampscott, MA) and Amy Dieckmann. Zell
stepped in and knocked down three of seven three point attempts to
score nine, and Dieckmann was a force on the glass, pulling down
seven rebounds.
It was not an easy victory, however, for the Ephs. Keene State,
who dropped to 4-2 with the loss, benefited from a terrific night
by Freshman Guard Meghan Csizmesia (Arlington, Vt.), who nailed
five of 11 three pointers, and scored 17 points to go along with
four assists. But, when she left the game with over four minutes
remaining due to injury, the Ephs took control.
Other Owls in double figures include Sarah Linn (Brattleboro,
Vt.) with 14, Aly Araque (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) with 13 to go
along with seven rebounds, and Erika Forsberg (Laconia, N.H.) who
scored 11 and grabbed nine rebounds.
The Ephs (4-3) led 27-23 at halftime, and survived a high paced
scoring second half to take the win. For the game, Williams was
outshot by Keene State 39% to 38%. Next up for Keene State will be
a home LEC battle against Southern ME this Saturday.
