KEENE , N.H. 9/15/01 - Melissa Harnch-Smith (Newburyport, MA.)
had a goal and an assist to lead the Keene State College field
hockey team to a 3-0 shutout victory over Fitchburg State College
in Keene on Saturday. It was the first Little East/Alliance
Conference game of the season for both teams.
It was the third straight win for KSC (3-2, 1-0 LEC/Alliance),
which moves over the .500 mark for the first time this season.
Fitchburg State falls to 1-3 (0-1/LEC Alliance.
Harnch-Smith gave KSC a 1-0 half-time lead when her drive from
12-yards out found the back of the net. It was her fifth goal of
the season, and fourth in the Owls' last two games. The Owls
tallied two goals within a two-minute span in the second half.
Nichole Dallas (Marlow, NH) put in a rebound off a corner for her
first goal of the season. Kaitlyn Henley's (Somers, NY), second
goal of the season, a crossing drive to the far corner made it a
3-0 game.
KSC outshot Falcons by a 26-1 margin.
KSC goalie Lindsay Hamilton (Bratttleboro, Vt.) didn't make a
save in notching her first shutout of the season. Angela Buffington
(Carver, MA.) had a busy day in goal for FSC finishing with 17
saves.
Keene State will be at Framingham State on Tuesday (4 p.m.).
