AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College volleyball team ran its
overall record to 5-1 with a 3-0 shutout win over visiting
non-league foe Keene State College on Wednesday night. Game scores
were 30-5, 30-15 and 30-17, as Keene State fell to 2-6 with the
loss.
Amherst senior co-captain outside hitter Erica Hewes (Pebble
Beach, CA) was nearly unstoppable with a match-high 16 kills and
just one error in 19 total attacks, for a whopping .789 hitting
percentage. Fellow senior co-captain Meredith DeMeules (Los
Angeles, CA) was similarly impressive with a double-double
16-assist, 14-dig night, to go along with five kills and three
service aces. First-year setter Annie Hoeksma (Los Angeles, CA)
continued her strong play with a match-high 19 assists, six kills
and two service aces.
Senior middle hitter Marla Malinauskas (New Providence, NJ) and
junior outside hitter Sandy Holly (Meredith, NH) each tallied five
kills to pace Keene State.
Keene State will play in a tri-meet at Mt. Holyoke College with
Westfield State on Saturday (1 p.m.).
