KEENE, N.H.. 9/5/01 - Melissa Rogers's (Southwick, MA.) penalty
corner goal at the 9:29 mark of overtime lifted Springfield College
to a 2-1 field hockey victory over Keene State College on
Wednesday.
The loss spoiled the season-opener for KSC. Springfield improves
to 3-0.
The Owls got on the board just 26 seconds into the game when
Kaitlyn Henley (Somers, N.Y.) deflected in a shot take by Suzanne
Koehler (Southbury, CT). The Pride got the equalizer with just
under 10 minutes to go in the half on a penalty corner goal by
Lyndia Grant (Granby, CT).
Lindsay Hamilton (Brattleboro, Vt.),, who finished with 12
saves, had a strong game in goal for the Owls. She made several
game-saving stops in overtime against Melissa Beals (Blackstone,
MA.) and Rogers to keep the Owls in the game. Nichole Dallas
(Marlow, NH) also had a solid game on defense for KSC. Liz Sena
(Wading River, N.Y.) had five saves for the Pride.
'They're a very strong team and they came in already having
played two games, so I have to please with our first effort of the
season,' said KSC Coach Amy Watson, a Springfield grad. Springfield
were NCAA finalists last season.
Keene State will play at the Skidmore Tournament this weekend in
New York.
