PLYMOUTH, N.H. 1/22/02- Junior Hayley Alaimo (Ellington, CT) and
sophomore Aly Araque (Hopewell Jct., N.Y.) both registered
double-doubles Tuesday evening, including a game-high 21 points
apiece, as Keene State College knocked off Plymouth State
College77-69 in a Little East Conference women's basketball game at
Foley Gymnasium.
The win improves the Owls to 10-6 overall and 5-3 in the
conference, while the Panthers drop to 12-5 and 5-3. PSC had won 15
consecutive conference home games, dating back two years to the day
(an 80-71 loss to Eastern Connecticut on 1-22-00).
Plymouth State held a 31-30 halftime advantage, but the Panthers
went 0-for-13 from three-point range after the break and shot just
33 percent overall. Keene State overcame 27 turnovers and made its
free throws in the second half to pull out the win.
It was still anyone's game when the two teams exchanged leads
with less than six minutes remaining. Keene State scored seven
straight points to take a 68-60 lead with 4:38 remaining, and even
though the Owls didn't make another field goal the rest of the way,
PSC never regained the lead and KSC won going away.
Alaimo and Araque each connected on five three-point field
goals, with Alaimo grabbing 14 rebounds and Araque pulling down 11.
Sophomore Andrea Arsenault (Dover, N.H.) added 12 points and eight
boards, and senior Erika Forsberg (Laconia, N.H.) contributed 10
points and nine rebounds as the Owls had a 58-42 advantage in the
rebounding department.
PSC had just two players score in double figures. Junior Whitney
Morin (Derby Line, Vt.) tossed in a team-high 18 points, while
classmate Courtney Albert (Hudson, N.H.) added 16 points and a
team-high nine rebounds. Junior Heather Adey (Nashua, N.H.) chipped
in with nine points and eight rebounds.
Keene State is back in action Saturday at league-leading
Southern ME (1:00 p.m.).
